Way Back When…

A lot of time on my hands so attempting to develop the poetry a little and have a go at writing a song.

Definitely a challenge as I’ve never written a song before, I’m tone death and I have no idea what, if any, melodies might work with my lyrics.

Anyway, here it is. Maybe it’s the beginnings of a song, perhaps it’s just another poem.

Way Back When…

~

Sitting in a blues bar,

drinking jack over ice.

Listening to the stories,

of way back when.

~

An old joe got smokin’,

‘bout a time long past.

Things not forgotten,

in our small southern town.

~

Way back when,

a place for us to be.

Way back when,

together you and me.

~

Susie at the jukebox,

same songs every time.

A high school flame of mine,

but that was way back when.

~

Today is not my callin’,

nothing without you.

If I stay here for a while,

tomorrow might leave me be.

~

Way back when,

a place for us to be.

Way back when,

together you and me.

~

Wheels they keep on rollin’,

time moves things along.

But dreams keep us close,

to life way back when.

~

That day I first met you,

down by the stream.

Until heaven came knockin’,

those years in between.

~

Way back when,

a place for us to be.

Way back when,

together you and me.
